Every creation begins with a design. We can meet to discuss your quilt in person if you live in the Phoenix-Peoria area. If you’re outside the area, we can consult by phone or online and you can mail me your quilt top. Because each quilt top is unique, the stitching we select together should be unique, too. Some options are listed on the left, but we can collaborate on your special design.

Preparing your quilt top

	1.	Make sure the quilt top lays flat. If the top is flared, has extra fullness, the quilt cannot be pulled out. I can possibly take out some of the fullness with quilting patterns that will disguise this problem. This does not assure however that there may be some puckering or tucks around the edges.
	2.	Press your quilt top and backing.
	3.	Is the quilt top square? Measure the center of the vertically. Then measure the outside edges vertically. If there is more the ½ inch difference, it is possible that your quilt will have tucks when quilted. Do the same measurements horizontally.
	4.	Check quilt top for loose threads and clip any that are showing.
	5.	Do not baste or layer your quilt.

Preparing your quilt back

	1.	Select 100% cotton for your backing fabric. Poly/cotton & 100% polyesters stretch differently than cotton and can cause tucks and puckering during the quilting process.
	2.	For best results, select a printed backing fabric similar to the colors in the quilt top.
	3. Sew with a 5/8" seam allowance using 12 stitches per inch, trim seam to 1/4”. Press seams open.
	4.	Please cut your backing AND batting a minimum of 3" larger than your quilt top ON ALL SIDES. (Packaged batting does not need to be cut.) Ensure that all edges are straight.
   5.	If applicable, mark the top quilt with a safety pin.
	6.	Press the backing well. Backing seams should be pressed open. It is just as important to take the time to press the backing, as it is the top.
